Martha lives in Waimānalo, and is an independent contractor working with people to help them start & grow strong, successful nonprofits and businesses from their dreams and ideas.  She believes entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations and small businesses are the backbone of Hawai‘i communities.

She conducts an array of workshops, 1-to-1 assessment and services, grant writing, data collection, report writing, business plan & grant writing clinics, community input sessions and meeting facilitation, statewide.

Martha offers the following workshops: Biz Start-up Checklist, Business Plan Writing Clinic Series, Priority Setting & Budgeting to Flourish, Nonprofit Start-up Basics, Grant Writing, Funds Development Planning for Nonprofits, Social Enterprise for Nonprofits, Board Training, plus more.

As an independent contractor since 1982, she has taught workshops and classes, conducted 1-to-1 assessments & provided customized help sessions, conducted research, written journal articles, collected data, held focus groups, produced reports, and co-led the start-up and growth of a community consumer cooperative and other community efforts.

January 2016 – May 31, 2019, Martha was Hi‘ilei Aloha LLC’s Capacity Building Manager.  Hi‘ilei Aloha’s mission:  To identify, promote, develop and support culturally-appropriate, sustainable opportunities that benefit Native Hawaiians.  The focus – strengthen Hawaiian communities through workshops, a 48 hour entrepreneurship class, leadership development, QuickBooks training, organizing operations for success, networking, an incubator-co-work space and 1-to-1 technical assistance for individuals and groups to start-up & grow businesses and non-profits.

2013, Martha and others in Waimānalo opened the Waimānalo Market Co-op. Until July 2015, she served as the 1stGeneral Manager, working with community, board, members, volunteers, local farmers and crafters.

Fulfilling various staff leadership roles at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for 16 years, one accomplishment includes opening the Washington, D.C. office as its first Bureau Chief.  She has conducted research, written articles, wrote grants, implemented grants, reviewed grants, lead policy advocacy, facilitated community organizing efforts, provided services and taught classes addressing issues affecting women and girls, sexual assault, domestic violence, crime victims, witnesses and their families and violence prevention/peace.
